Oracle PL/SQL Advanced Developer Certified Professional (OCP) :
Oracle University anounced new certification path for PL/SQL developers. Earlier to become OCP, developers has to complete 1Z1-141(Oracle Forms : Build Internet Application) after OCA. By introduction of this new path, developers can take 1Z1-146 (Oracle PL/SQL Advanced Developer) exam and become OCP(Oracle PL/SQL Advanced Developer Certified Professional ).
1Z1-141 beta will be released on August 20, 2008 in prometric testing centers world wide.

Oracle issues zero-day security alert :
For the first time in more than three years, Oracle releases an out-of-cycle patch security alert. Oracle has had an interesting record for the past three and a half years when it comes to security. Since January 2005, Oracle has not had to release an out-of-cycle security alert for its products.
That record ended this week with the public report of a serious vulnerability in Oracle's BEA WebLogic Web server, which rates a 10 on the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) scale. Oracle has posted an alert for a serious flaw in its WebLogic Server and Express products. The issue lies within the Apache Connector component used by both systems, and attack code is publicly available.Oracle warned that the attack could be remotely exploited by an attacker without the need for any authentication information, and could give control over the targeted system.

Oracle updates free Berkeley DB :

Oracle announced new releases of Oracle Berkeley DB, Oracle Berkeley DB XML and Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition. The new releases and enhancements signify Oracle's commitment to continued innovation across the Oracle Berkeley DB product family, while maintaining the open source dual license business model.
*** Berkely DB is a library that provides a high-performance embedded database, with bindings in C, C++, Java, Perl, Python, Ruby, Tcl, Smalltalk, and many other programming languages. Berkeley DB was first developed at the University of California. *****


Oracle Corporation to acquire Carry-based Knowledge Software LLC :
Oracle announced Software giant Oracle Corporation has informed that it has reached an agreement with Global Knowledge Inc., to acquire its software division christened Knowledge Software (GKS) LLC.Oracle plans to form a global sales unit to expand its focus on non-Oracle applications using Global Knowledge products, which it said would extend its software training offering.

SAP, Oracle and Citrix Increase Software and Support Prices :
SAP will be increasing maintenance fees from 15% to 22% of the cost of the initial software license. Oracle will raise software license fees from 15% to 20% in the U.S. while prices in Europe held steady and some regions experienced a decrease in price.
Citrix Systems is likely to follow software giants Oracle and SAP by raising prices. The company that pioneered Windows thin-client computing said that the decline in the value of the dollar against other currencies was forcing its hand.


Oracle stays on top as database sales show healthy growth :
Oracle once again took the top spot, capturing 44.3 percent of the market with revenue growth of 13.3 percent. IBM came in second with a 21 percent share, also logging a 13.3 percent revenue growth rate. It was followed by Microsoft, with 18.5 percent of the market and a 14 percent jump in revenue.

Changes have been made to strengthen the Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN) Program and help nurture our partners growth.
The newly revised OPN Program will:
• Better reflect the types of companies we do business with.
• Establish criteria for membership upgrades that are aligned with our partners' business models.
• Offer benefits to help develop our partners businesses.
Why are we making these changes?
Oracle is constantly looking to improve and update OPN to ensure that the program:
• Supports our partner community's business with Oracle.
• Is comprehensive and flexible to allow new partner types to join Oracle's economy.
• Offers tools and resources to help our partners grow their Oracle portfolio.
What is being Updated?
The areas where you will find changes are:
• Hosting Partner Type definition
• Staff Competency Table
• New Section added to the Benefits Table highlighting Membership Benefits and Tools
Who will be Impacted?
All partners in OPN looking to upgrade to Certified Partner (CP) or Certified Advantage Partner (CAP) will be affected, as well as new partners joining OPN.

When will the changes take effect?
• The benefits and partner type changes are effective immediately.
• For existing Partners applying for an upgrade:
• Before Oct 1, 2008: Your upgrade will be processed under the old Staff Competency table and you will have a 3 month grace period to achieve the new requirements for your level.
• After Oct 1, 2008: Your upgrade will be processed using the new criteria.
